There's no literature on the topic !

Today we spoke about there not being specific literature we should be looking at in relation to writing our module essays.

During the conversation, ideas such as revisiting old texts, not looking specifically to find supporting literature and also incorporating literature that might not support your practice but talking about it in a positive and inclusive manner, were discussed.

Through personal experience I have found, from having previously used literature, there is more to explore in terms of ideas or undiscovered chapters. Text that once correlated to a previous idea, now has a different meaning within this first module. Looking into these texts with different contexts lead to differing opinions from original topics.

We also discussed not looking for specific texts to inform your essay. Trying to form your own opinion and not be distracted by other literature is paramount when discussing your own practice. Its easy to start reading into someone else's thoughts and theories, and then compromise your own.

However, sometimes when you do find a piece of literature that either supports or contradicts your own practice, we should be linking these in a supporting way to our work. It should not be an argument, more an appreciation for someone else's way of thinking.

A helpful idea for expanding research, was looking further into cited work within books, and finding the original articles or texts where other relevant ideas may have been discussed. Also using google books, google scholar or the middlesex online library are great ways to research.
